A Short History of Macedonian
|
|
It was in 1973 that, because of their missionary zeal and heart to help, Harold
Williams, Leon Jasper and three Christian businessmen joined together to help Missionary
Baptist Churches and their missionaries carry the gospel to the ends of the earth. The
result was the Macedonian Missionary Service under the sponsorship of Ardella Baptist
Church in Lakeland, Florida. In those early days the offices were on the campus of Florida
Baptist Schools in Lakeland.
In 1981 sponsorship was transferred to Westwood Missionary Baptist Church in Winter
Haven, Florida, and Macedonian moved its offices into a remodeled two bedroom house on the
church property. This space was quickly outgrown and 23 acres were purchased and ground
was broken in 1989 at the present location. In 1993 the ministry moved into a 7,000 sq.
ft. building. These facilities included offices, classrooms, library, book room, video and
audio recording studios, amateur radio room and a mail room. In 1997 over 110 volunteers
came to erect a 10,000 sq. ft. print shop and warehouse building.
From its beginning thirty years ago Macedonian Missionary Service has grown into a
multifaceted ministry. Over the years God has put together a diverse team dedicated to
doing whatever is necessary to get the job done without caring who gets the credit.
However, the real people of Macedonian are the thousands of volunteers and financial
supporters without which Macedonian could not exist.
While many good things have been experienced over the past thirty years, the
surface has yet to be scratched. Every year there seems to be more exciting opportunities
and open doors. That is the nature of the ministry of serving--you never know what the
future holds in the way of projects and opportunities.
